Carry On Luggage – Packing Tips

Carry On Luggage - Packing Tips

Airports around the world have tightened carry on luggage restrictions and security checks. There are now guidelines that have also been set restricting the carriage of liquids on board the aircraft cabin.

With even smaller baggage allowances, maximizing our carry on luggage and check in luggage space is important, and we share some luggage packing tips with Love Stories readers:

  1.
    1. Make a packing checklist of the items you plan to bring along for your trip such as the type of clothing, shoes, toiletries, maps, guidebooks and plane tickets. Review the checklist and remove those that are not necessary.
    2. Check the weather conditions of the other country you will be travelling to, so that you can determine the type of clothing to bring along. If the weather is warm, you can pack a waterproof jacket in case it rains.
    3. To maximize packing space, fold clothes into small rolls to save space and reduce wrinkles. Roll two or three clothes on top of one another. Pack bulky clothes such as jackets and sweaters in compressible ziplock bags, which will create more space in your luggage. Keep clothes that wrinkle easily at the top of the luggage.
    4. Bring at least two pairs of shoes. One comfortable pair that is good for work but still allows you to traverse long distances and another pair which is slightly more formal, in case you are invited for formal functions or social events. Pack shoes that are in neutral colours so that it will complement most of your outfits. Wear the bulkiest shoe and pack the lightest one in the luggage.
    5. Pack shoes tightly together with the soles facing out or the heels at opposite ends. You may pack any fragile items inside the shoes as it acts as a cushion for support.
    6. Get a mini foldable toothbrush, travel size toothpaste and deodorant.
    7. Pour your personal shampoo and conditioner into small plastic bottles. Place the bottles in an airtight clear and re-sealable plastic bag to prevent leakage into the luggage. Liquids, gels and aerosols are only allowed in cabin baggage if they are kept in containers with volumes of not more than 100ml each. The volume of the bag must not exceed 1 litre. Tuck these toiletries into the corners of the suitcase.
    8. Pack the daily necessities and any medicines you need at the top of the bag or in a separate hand carry bag. It will be easier if you wish to reach for the items at anytime.
    9. Get a bag with many compartments to put in the miscellaneous items.
    10. If you realise that you cannot fit in everything you wanted, close the suitcase and make it stand upright or simply just close it and shake it down. The contents will settle down and there will be more space to fit in more the next day.

For ease of convenience, do check on the list of prohibited or restricted items that you are allowed to carry onboard aeroplanes when you travel. Bon voyage!

  1. These are all great ideas. You’ve obviously traveled quite a bit. With so much lost luggage and the extra fees I take only carry-on bags or ship ahead of time. Even if my trip spans several weeks.

  2. Thanks for the useful info. It’s so interesting
